Style guide

I was one of the three copyeditors that made up the Premera Blue Cross editorial team. We co-ran a monthly style guide meeting during which we updated everyone tied to marketing and communications. We also developed a four-part workshop series focused on outlining all aspects of content writing and strategy, which would have been used to educate current and future employees of the company. These are internal and confidential documents.

Concept: Update and maintain the Premera style guide, which sets the grammatical standards across the entire corporation.

Goal: Provide access to a concise and easy-to-understand document for all editorial reference needs.

Content remediation project

In 2023, leadership formed a task force to focus on rewriting, restructuring, and redesigning all content that is seen by members. The task force was split into several divisions of the business’ external communications—the video and editorial teams were represented by my coworkers and me. This work was largely non-visual and involved hundreds of documents, forms, and other communications that I cannot link.

Concept: Improve the company’s external content and communications to better serve our members.

Goal: Increase the Premera Blue Cross CSAT (customer satisfaction) scores so we can continue to put the member at the center of all we do.

Kinwell blog

Kinwell Clinics offer exclusive access to $0 primary care to Premera Blue Cross, Premera Blue Cross HMO, and LifeWise members. My team, Brand Creative and Voice of the Consumer, was working with the Kinwell marketing team to build a blog for the clinics, which features monthly articles about a variety of topics relating to healthcare. My role was to write, edit, and implement SEO best practices throughout Kinwell’s articles before they were published. Due to management changes, my work is not yet visible on the blog.

Concept: Create SEO-friendly blog articles that talk about topics relevant to members.

Goal: Improve Kinwell’s standing in the Google SRPs, allowing us to educate members and non-members about select topics. This hopefully will drive attendance at Kinwell clinics around Washington and potentially drive new employer business.

Substance use disorder blogs

When I started at Premera, I was tasked with writing three blog posts about substance use disorder to be published during Substance Use Disorder Awareness Month. I already had experience writing about substance use disorder in the past, for Oregon Trail Recovery. The Premera Healthsource Blog is under construction and these articles are unavailable at the moment.

Concept: Write blog articles that raise awareness about substance use disorder.

Goal: Offer accurate, helpful, and educational information about substance use disorder that can help those struggling with the disease.
